Paleo Grain-Free Paratha

All Appetizers Indian Flavors Side Dish

THIS ONE HAS ME VERY EXCITED!

For many of my clients giving up grains for at least some time is a part of reality.  I work hard to help fill the gap for foods they crave, and this one is a winner on so many levels!

I promise you, you won't miss your chapati or paratha after trying this!

Other ways I like to use these – as a wrap, burrito, or soft taco, pita, but the options are endless!

The almond flour makes these nice and crispy on the outside and the tapioca or arrowroot flour is what gives it that nice chewy bread-like texture.

This definitely is hands down one of the best “replacement" recipes, and I hope you love it as much as I do!!

Paleo Paratha

You are gonna thank me when you try this clean paratha replacement

PREPARATION TIME: 2 MIN COOKING TIME: 20 MIN TOTAL TIME: 22 MIN

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 1/2 cup arrowroot or tapioca flour
  • 1 cup canned coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp salt

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix the ingredients in a bowl till a thin batter forms. It should resemble pancake batter
  2. Heat up a non-toxic non-stick pan (I love my GreenPans!) on a medium flame.
  3. Take about 1/4 of the batter and pour it on the pan and spread it out with a spoon.
  4. Let the paratha cook until the top looks cooked through (it will start to bubble a bit). Be patient! This could take up to 3 minutes per side. If you are worried about the bottom burning, lower the heat.
  5. Flip, and cook the other side. The texture should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
  6. If the inside of the paratha is gooey, you need to cook it for longer.

NOTES:

If you are using a castiron or another pan that isn't non-stick, you may need to add some oil or ghee before cooking.

OMG! Total game changer. These parathas are so yummy. It’s a staple in our house. We use this to eat with all our curries. Must try!

Morgan

I’m excited to try this one! Would another nut flour work? I recently found out I can’t do almonds 😭

Hi Riyana,

Thanks for this recipe! I really enjoyed it. However, I had one question – is tapioca flour low carb? From what I understand, tapioca by itself is full of carbs and very less protein. Hence, I wanted to check with you on this.

Thanks!

I willl thank you for the recipe lol but tbh the proportion was totally wrong. With that much flour and tapioca flour, the amount of milk was not enough and I had to add lot of water to that batter. Also , you said 3 minutes each side to flip I had to keep them on the pan almost for an hour! It really makes a lot of difference to use the right measurement.

Hi Riyana,

thank you so much for your reply. Can you please let me know how much is 1/2 cup almond flour in grams and 1 cup coconut milk in ml?

Many thanks in advance. Anyway, it tasted really great. I guess next time I would just make sure to make a really small amount of it, for one person, it becomes a lot. Otherwise, I have to preserve them for several days.

Wow!!! What a great simple recipe replacement for my high-carb store bought parathas. Thank you! I was someone suspect on the flavor/taste but it’s amazing! Finally found something to pair with my Keema and other dishes. Thank you! I’m assuming I could make a bunch and freeze them?

Thank you for this! I’m going to try with a little less coconut milk, but it is still the best homemade keto paratha! Last time my husband did “dirty keto” and I’m much happier making this than buying expensive gross ultra processed keto food

Just made it for the first time today and it was an absolute hit in my house! ☺️ My whole family was around and they all loved it, even those who aren’t on low carb diets. My 2 year old niece kept asking for more. Definitely going in my rotation, I’m so excited about this recipe. Thank you!! ❤️
