It’s been nothing but rain since the start of the new year here in Singapore. and I'm trying to look at it from a positive... I’m hoping all this rain washes away all the madness of 2020 and ushers in a fresh new start for all!⁠⠀

What is Sumac - it’s a spice that comes from drying and grounding up the berries of the sumac tree, which can be commonly found in the Middle East and Africa (but also other places).⁠⠀
⁠⠀
What does it taste like - It’s tart, lively, and bright. I’ve heard it referred to as powdered lemon. I would agree, but it also has a little something extra that you would just have to try for yourself! ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
How to use it - you can literally use it as a replacement for lemon if you wanted. How do I use it? I love it sprinkled on pilaf, used to marinate salmon, chicken, and other kebabs, in my Greek salad, sprinkled on my hummus, sprinkled on my sweet potatoes, and so much more! The key with spices is to try! Start with a little and go big when you feel confident! 😊⁠⠀

Does Sumac have health benefits? This spice packs a nutritional punch! It’s one of the most anti-inflammatory spices out there, packed with free radical fighting antioxidants, and known to lower blood sugar and blood pressure. ⁠⠀

Sumac is definitely a great spice to add to your Spice cabinet for its taste, versatility, and health benefits. ⁠⠀

Having good seasoning and spice blends can take boring food and make it ah-mazing and Za'atar is literally one of the spices I use the most! ⁠⠀
⁠⠀
First off, what is Za'atar?⁠⠀
⁠⠀
It's a flavorful spice blend used in many dishes throughout the Middle East (and my house!). Curries, dips, meat rubs, and more.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
There are many variations of the blend, but on the blog now is my simple recipe that is versatile and delicious.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
How do I like to use my Za'atar?⁠⠀
⁠⠀
The options are endless, but here are some of my favorites.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
∙Made into a dip by simply mixing with some good quality olive oil.⁠⠀
∙Added to my salads⁠⠀
∙Sprinkled over avocado toast, eggs, or my shakshouka, for breakfast⁠⠀
∙Added to creamy hummus.⁠⠀
∙slathered on my low-carb flatbread and served with kebabs.⁠⠀
∙Mixed with olives and served up as part of a killer mezze platter.⁠⠀
∙Used as a spice rub or marinade like in my sumac and za'atar spiced baked chicken (recipe will be up hopefully this week!).⁠⠀
